Dear Dr. Zeiger,

	Martin Brooks has just completed a dissertation under my
direction.  The idea, to identify a class of programs that could
be debugged by testing, was his own and the methods were entirely
original with him.  Brooks is outstanding in originality and
motivation for independent work.

	His oral presentation of his thesis results
was one of the clearest and best that I
have attended.  On that basis and on the basis of his work for me
as a teaching assistant, I believe he would make an excellent
teacher.
